Dear Existentialist:
Welcome, newbie, to The Bored. I mean, The Board.
Your post takes me back. Back. Back. Okay, thats far enough. Now I can see you better.
Your post reminds me of the mental pretzels I baked and thorughly enjoyed eating in Philosophy 101 and Reality 202. Ah, those were the daze my friend, we thought they'd never end. We'd sing and dance forever and a day. We'd live the life we'd choose, we'd fight and never lose, for we were young and sure to have our way...." Hopefully, you know the rest. If not, what you dont't know can't hurt me.
Yours in Existential Ennui,
Nate

What was YOUR childhood dream?
by Golf inbeing a professional baseball player.
i ended up being a professional golfer and teacher, one of the few hats i wear.
as a kid i lived for sports everything else was secondary, i love competition, in competition winning and losing is part of the game, it's a given.

I am a humble man of humble means. My dreams partake of my humble nature, being as they are a reflection and revelation ( in the non-religious sense of course) of my humility. Let me state proudly and unequivocally, that I am a humble man. I am proud of my humility.
That said, let me now proceed to my childhood dream, even that which motivated, inspired, captivated, and energized my younger self long before Reality had a chance to set in and make it's presence known in a profound and unmistakeable manner.
I wanted to play golf with Jesus on the island of Oahu.
Thanks to ya'll for kindly dropping in.

Are the gospels genuine?
by ackack ini've been reading the jesus puzzle and something interesting was this re-ordering of q. its seems like the various pieces of q in luke and matthew have different contexts.
this would support that the contexts for the q sayings were invented.. it seems that paul doesn't reference the gospels in any form.. does this support a late writing for the gospels and therefore calls into question how close the gospels were written to the alleged events of jesus' life?.
how would someone who believes in the gospels reconcile these differences?

Dear Ackack
It has come to my attention, through various and sundry means and channels, not all of which are entirely legal and/or legitimate, that you do, in fact, entertain and possibly endorse the wild and ungrounded theory that a hypothetical document (the existence of which was first posited by demon-possessed liberal commie bastards) designated "Q" does in fact exist.
Now, before I dispel the ignorance and delusional thinking that always accompanies this grave and patholgical error, let me lift the veil, so to speak, and reveal the repellant, repugnant, and downright ugly truth concerning this here bold and fanciful heresy, to wit: That I am now so stoned that I am no longer quite sure of what the hell it is that I'm going on about. See? That's precisely what the demon-possessed liberal commie bastards that dreamed up this here lunatic assertion would have you believe, given the general state of ignorance and superstition prevalent in our day and age
"Q" does not in fact stand for or represent the German (Otherwise known as Kraut) word "Quelle" which those of us who speak God's own King James English call "Source." (You new agers just back off nice and slow and there won't be no trouble) On the contrary, and to the eternal detriment of not just American society and planet Earth, but perforce the entire known universe and it's environs, the designation "Q" in fact represents the the Unholy Trinity of liberal bias, to wit: Quazy Quacks Quacking.
That's precisely what the demon-possessed liberal commie bastards that dreamed up this here lunatic assertion would have you believe, again, given the general state of ignorance and superstition prevalent in our day and age. Furthermore, and in conclusion, it is my considered and scholarly opinion as a card carrying certified member of the intellectual elite, that this matter is beneath further notice unless or until we are notified otherwise by the duly appointed or elected officials to whom our mental and spiritual health, safety, well-being and happiness has been legally and rightfully delegated.
Gentleman, I stand upon my conclusions.
Sincerely,
Nate

God's Organization.
by Blueblades init is evident that the only way any organization could be god's organization would be if god appointed it as such.
jehovah's witnesses believe that the watchtower society received that appointment in the spring of 1919 in fulfillment of the most important scripture in watchtower theology---matthew 24:45-47.. on the watchtower's official website under the heading, 'what jehovah's witnesses believe" they list forty of their teachings.
but their most important teaching, the only teaching that needs to be known------"the watchtower society is god's organization"---is not mentioned.. this from,"captives of a concept" page17.

My question is, why does.n't the Watchtower Society have this teaching listed and supported by Scripture?
Blueblades
Howdy Blueblades
This here question of yours is what we in the intellectual community give the scientifcal moniker of "rhetorical" which means ya'll don't really spect an answer. Now, some egghead types are prone to disagree with that assessment, and dang gum it if that ain't there God-given Constitutional right. Granted, you may be questioning my sanity or my sobriety, or both, but I swear on a stack of Bibles before God and His Holy Angels, that the bottle of Nyquil I drank has not affected my mind in the least. That is a scientifical fact we in the intellectual community call "lying thru yer teeth" but we'll discuss that some other time.
In my many and manifold dealings with the above named cultic corporation , officially known by the exclsuive and proprietary name of "Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society, Inc" (as well as other legal designations too numerous to mention, leastwise when I'm this messed up), I have discovered a predilection toward prevarication. I would even go so far as to accuse them of stretching the truth here and there for the sake of argument. I know I know. Such a revelation is a psychic shock and surpise. To actually entertain the wild assumption that religious organizations regularly and deliberately blow smoke signals where the sun don't shine is a bold and presumptuous claim on my part, unsupported as it is by any evidence.
However, in my own defense and justification, I do hereby swear an oath, even my vow, pledge, troth, asservation, assurance, and guarantee, that you will find the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society, Inc, to be composed mainly (though not exclusively) of ne'er do wells intent on establishing and maintaining a worldwide publishing emprire under the pretence of operating a non-prophet charitable, educational, and religious organization. Furthermore, it is my considered opinion as a citizen of these United States and it's immediate environs, that the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, Inc, has in fact compromised both the security and integrity of this here message board by posing as one of our very own. To wit, Rex the Wonder Dog, aka "The Shining One."
Let's take a shine to that boy.

What first clued you in as to Rex's status as a fundie? Was it his:
Anger?

Narrow mindedness?
Ignorance?

The human brain is hardwired for religious experiences. Evidently it does (or did) have some evolutionary purpose. What that is I have no clue. At least today. Ask me when I don't have the flu.
You can learn about the parts of the brain hardwired for religious experience with a Google search. I know you know that but I felt obligated to write something appropriate.

Matthew 24 Verse By Verse
by Nate Merit inthe 24th chapter of matthew text is taken from
33 so you also, when you see all these signs, may be sure that he is near--at your very door.
this indicates that "the end" will be something these apostles can reasonably hope to "stand firm to" long enough to see, i.e., within their lifetime.

You know, Nate. I can understand you wanting to promote the books by friends of yours. I just cannot understand you wanting to be associated with literature that stops short of in depth research in order to 'prove' that scripture is unreliable or that prophecy has not been or is not being fulfilled. What good is it to clear your mind (as much as anyone can) of presuppositions just to replace them with new ones? The goal is scriptural exegesis is to let scripture interpret itself and arrive at valid conclusions, with the caveat that there are some facets that are unexplainable. If you start off trying to prove your view of things instead of getting at the truth of the matter then you end up with bogus conclusions.
(My gawd Rex, if you were any more full of yourself you'd explode) -

Hi Leolaia
Thanks for the imput. As usual, you're spot on.
I already agree with what you've posted, but Mark might take some convincing. I was hoping folks would email him with their reactions. [email protected]
I feel awful today. I think I have the flu. I was up writing my new book until nearly two am, then got really sick. Gack.
